The beginning of this year has been a special and very busy time for me. The past weeks have been filled with intense creative work – I managed to create several new graphic pieces that I am truly happy with. Unfortunately, I did not document the process thoroughly enough this time, so I cannot share much of the behind-the-scenes work just yet. However, the final results will soon appear on my website, where they can be viewed in full.
Above all, I would like to write about two interesting artistic events in Rotterdam that can be described as my exhibition “warm-up” for this year: Kunstroute Kralingen Crooswijk de Finale and Salon MA-AS – two very different yet equally inspiring experiences.
I was invited to participate in Kunstroute Kralingen Crooswijk de Finale by Willem van Hest. For many years, Kunstroute Kralingen Crooswijk was an annual art event during which visitors could explore the studios of artists living in Kralingen in Rotterdam. The finale lasted seven weeks and took place at Nivon Rotterdam on Dirk Smitsstraat 76. I presented two works there, including one that had not previously been shown publicly. Each week featured lectures, presentations, and concerts, giving the event a vibrant and communal atmosphere.
Just six days earlier, what was probably the largest group exhibition I have ever participated in came to an end – SALON MA-AS at WTC Art Gallery. I was invited by Astrid de Pauw. The exhibition was organized to celebrate 33 years of Martin Bijl’s involvement with the gallery and brought together 195 artists who had previously exhibited there. It was truly an impressive collection of artworks, attracting large crowds at the opening. I presented my two-year-old work titled Genesis, which gained new meaning in this context.
Now an even more intensive period lies ahead. This Thursday marks the opening of an exhibition at Les AAB in Paris, where I am participating together with Stichting KustWerkt and artists from AAB. It is an important international meeting and another opportunity for artistic dialogue.
Then, on March 15 at 3:00 PM, the opening of my solo exhibition will take place at the Nationaal Jenevermuseum Schiedam in Schiedam. This is a particularly meaningful moment for me – the opportunity to present a coherent, personal narrative within a museum space. I feel that I am entering an intense but truly exciting new phase of this year.
